WHAT IS WORKERS' COMPENSATION?

Workers’ Compensation is a disability insurance program mandated by the state of Connecticut and funded by employer contributions. The main premise of the Workers’ Compensation Act is to provide wage replacement and other benefits, as well as medical treatment, for those employees who have been injured, disabled, or killed while performing their jobs. In most cases, such employees are only eligible for benefits under the Workers' Compensation Act and are prohibited from suing their employers for benefits.

Workers' compensation benefits include:

• compensation to covered employees for loss of their earnings as a result of an accidental injury or occupational disease sustained during employment;
• cost of living adjustments for covered employees or their surviving spouse or other eligible dependents;
• scheduled awards for permanent and partial loss of a body part or use of a body part, dismemberment or disfigurement;
• payment for medical expenses (including hospital care);
• compensation to dependents of covered employees in case of a work-related death;
• payment for funeral expenses;
• other benefits granted by the Workers' Compensastion Commissioner after reviewing an employee's request for benefits and supporting documents.

WHO IS ELIGIBLE?

Employees who are injured on the job and whose employer is required to provide Workers' Comp insurance for its employees.
