SEASONAL
FLU VACCINATION
The seasonal flu vaccine provides protection
against H1N1. People are no longer required to get
two shots (one for the seasonal flu and one for
the H1N1 virus).
WHO SHOULD GET THE VACCINE AND WHEN?
All people 6 months of age and older should get
the flu vaccine. Vaccination is especially
important for people who are at higher risk of
severe influenza and their close contacts,
including healthcare personnel and close contacts
of children younger then 6 months.
Getting the vaccine as soon as it is available
will provide protection if the flu season comes
early.
NEW VACCINE AVAILABLE: HIGH-DOSE
INFLUENZA VACCINE:
This high-concentration vaccine (about four
times as strong as the regular seasonal flu
vaccine) is available for people ages 65 or older.
If the clinic you are attending does not carry
this vaccine you will be given the regular flu
vaccine.
NEW VACCINE REQUIREMENTS FOR CHILDREN
ATTENDING DAYCARE:
The State of Connecticut has issued new
influenza vaccine requirements for children who
attend day care. By January 2011, and each January
1 thereafter, children ages 6-59 months attending
a child day care center, group day care center, or
family day care home are required to receive at
least one dose of influenza vaccine between
September 1 and December 31 of the preceding year.
If families do not provide proof of the
vaccinations, their children will be excluded from
day care programs. Families, however, can seek
exemptions for medical or religious reasons.
